LINGAYEN, Pangasinan – LUPang Ilocos BNS Federation, Inc. has successfully conducted its 6th Regional Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNSs) Congress last September 16, 2016 at the Sison Auditorium, Lingayen, Pangasinan.
Around 1,000 BNSs across the region attended the said Congress which was hosted by the provincial government of Pangasinan and the Pangasinan Provincial BNS Federation in partnership with the National Nutrition Council Regional Office I.
With this year’s theme , “LUPang Ilocos BNSs: Kaakibat at maasahan sa serbisyong pang-nutrisyon tungo sa malusog na kinabukasan”, the BNSs in the region have given their reassurance and strong commitment in the delivery of timely, efficient and effective nutrition and related services to improve the nutritional status of families in the barangays.
While serving as a venue for Barangay Nutrition Scholars to convene their general assembly to discuss various concerns of the federation, the Congress also aims to update and empower BNSs towards addressing malnutrition and ending hunger; update them on current nutrition and program developments; and, enhance their skills in improving their performance as BNSs.
In his message, Pangasinan Governor Amado I. Espino III commended and acknowledged the invaluable efforts and sacrifices of the BNSs even as he recognized them as the unsung heroes in the region.
Espino urged the BNSs to be more patient in performing their tasks in helping improve the nutritional status of the children despite the very limited resources given them by the local government units. The governor gave his commitment to discuss with the barangay captains of the province to provide financial assistance and incentives to BNSs.
Topics discussed during the Congress included the First 1000 Days ni Baby, Pinggang Pinoy, Pediatric Health and Nutrition and Basic Financial Wellness Program.
Highlight of the Congress was the coronation of Ms. Lalaine D. Cillar of Caba, La Union as Mutya ng LUPang Ilocos 2016; 1st Runner-up Ms. Erna Q. Ochiang of Tagudin, Ilocos Sur; 2nd Runner-up Ms. Marissa B. Abracia of Mapandan, Pangasinan and 3rd Runner-up Ms. Daniella L. Raguirag of Currimao, Ilocos Norte. (Source: Facebook of NNC, Region 1)
