VIGAN CITY – 13 police chiefs in the Ilocos region have been relieved for poor performance in the campaign against prohibited drugs, according to a press release by the Philippine National Police Regional Office 1.
The relieved police chiefs were from Batac City Police Station, Pinili Municipal Police Station, Nueva Era MPS, Carasi MPS, Candon CPS, Narvacan MPS, Santa MPS, Alilem MPS, Salcedo MPS, Sugpon MPS, Santol MPS, Burgos MPS and San Gabriel MPS.
Police Chief Superintendent Romulo E Sapitula, PRO1 Regional Director, personally visited police stations in the region and reminded the heads of office to perform well and double their efforts in the fight against illegal drugs.
He said that, as head of office, it is their responsibility to improve crime clearance and efficiency in their locality.
“A way to ensure that the organization is working well is to see to it that the heads of units and offices are capable of doing the same,” PCSupt Sapitula said.
“We have to set standards to continuously improve the performance of police officers in Region 1 and we will not tolerate any act of laxity and incompetence with our mandate,’’ he added.
PRO1 said the relieved officers were reassigned as Checkpoint Supervisors. In the meantime, the Deputy Chiefs of Police were appointed as Officers-in-Charge.
In view of the recent flooding that caused heavy damages in various areas of Pangasinan, the Pangasinan Provincial Police Office was given an extension of one week to improve its performance. (TNM/PNP PRO1 PIO)
