1st Vigan City Job Fair a success

VIGAN CITY – Vice Mayor Franz Ranches said the participating companies were impressed with the tremendous response of job applicants to the 1st Vigan City Job Fair held here recently that they have committed to participate again should the city government headed by Mayor Ferdinand C. Medina initiate another job fair for unemployed residents here and the neighboring provinces.

“We have recorded around 1,000 job seekers,” Ranches said even as he stressesd that his office is monitoring how many of the applicants were absorbed by the participating companies.

Ranches said he received feedbacks from participating companies that many applicants shied away from short-term jobs from three to six months and instead applied for permanent jobs that offered high salaries.

The vice mayor said the city government participated in the job fair to show that there is transparency in the employment for vacant positions.

Ranches said the City of Vigan offered only around 20 vacancies but it was besieged with numerous applicants.

A call center based in Baguio has offered 500 call agents but less than 100 applied because of the rigid requirements, he said.

Ranches said he is hopeful that the next job fair will be bigger which will include overseas job offerings.
