STO. DOMINGO, Ilocos Sur – The Sto. Domingo Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association (SDTODA) through a resolution addressed to the Sangguniang Bayan’s committee on transportation, has recently asked for a fare increase in this municipality.
This was presented by Councilor Glenda Tadena, chairman of the committee on transportation during a regular session held recently.
Tadena proposed that although the resolution of the SDTODA asking for fare hike has been referred mainly to her committee, the matter should be treated by the legislative body working as a whole.
“I believe it would be more appropriate if we treat this issue as a whole rather than a committee function alone,” the lady councilor said.
Councilor Michael Figueras moved that the matter be treated first in the committee level as this is the usual procedure the council is religiously observing.
“We must adhere to the usual and proper procedure. This issue requires the holding of a public hearing which shall be spearheaded by the committee concerned,” Figueras noted.
The legislative body later approved the holding of a public hearing before formulating measures in aid of legislation for the benefit of both the commuters and the tricycle operators/drivers.
“We must give equal treatment to both the riding public and the transportation sector in this municipality,” the members of commented.
