Administrator Carlitos Encarnacion of the National Tobacco Administration (NTA) appealed to both tobacco growers and cigarette manufacturers in the country to boost the tobacco industry.
Encarnacion made this appeal during the two-day Tobacco Summit which was held at the Bureau of Plant Industry Conference Hall, Diliman, Quezon City recently.
“It is now high time for us to reap the benefits of the tobacco industry especially those provinces in the Ilocos Region where the greater bulk of tobacco produce came from,” the administrator said.
Encarnacion urged the participants to “promote at all cost the tobacco industry despite an intensified campaign by some sectors against cigarette smoking because of the hazard it brings to the health of the consumers.”
The two-day summit was participated in by tobacco growers and farmer-leaders, traders and prominent cigarette manufacturing firms in the country.
Aside from Encarnacion, other key officials and experts from NTA and some personalities lectured on issues and concerns that beset the industry.
