Cops intercept marijuana shipment

SAN FERNANDO CITY – Sugpon operatives have intercepted on Wednesday a mini-dump truck carrying dried marijuana leaves intended for illegal drug traders.

Police Chief Superintendent Leopoldo N. Bataoil, PRO1 Regional Director, said the shipment was foiled by the  Sugpon police led by Inspector Greg Guerrero following the arrest of Agustin Agapito, 25, single, a resident of  Tabangaoen, Balili, La Trinidad, Benguet, driver of the truck, after a  civilian asset tipped them off about the 15-kilos marijuana shipment estimated to worth P375,000.

“Our policemen have gathered information from an asset that a truck carrying the dried marijuana leaves was traversing down the Amburayan River to the lowland coming from the mountain. After which, policemen immediately established checkpoints that resulted to the seizure of the shipment,” Bataoil said.

The police found the dried marijuana leaves concealed in one of the luggages in the mini-dump truck.

Bataoil said thirty persons, who were on board the truck, were placed under investigation for their possible involvement in the illegal drug trade.

Bataoil said he has ordered a no let-up operation against marijuana cultivation and shipment after several raids of marijuana plantations mostly in the tri-boundary of Ilocos Sur, La Union and Benguet.

Bataoil said the incident was relayed to Undersecretary Antonio “Bebot” Villar, Presidential Assistance for Local Governance, who has  initiated Oplan 101, an intensified campaign on the eradication of marijuana and other kinds of illegal drugs.
