LINGAYEN, Pangasinan – a water search and rescue training for disaster readiness in preparation for the upcoming rainy season was launched at Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center here recently.
The activity was launched in coordination with the Regional Disaster Coordinating Council 1 (RDCC-1) chaired by Police Chief Supt.Leopoldo Bataoil, regional director of PRO-1.
Secretary of National Defense Hermogenes Ebdane Jr. was guest of honor of the occasion which was attended by Bataoil, Pangasinan Gov. Victor Agbayani, OCD-Administrator and Executive Officer, NDCC M/Gen Glenn J. Rabonza; Regional Director OCDRC-1 Armando N. Duque, Senior Supt. Rodrigo R. Abrazaldo, BFP Regional Director; Pangasinan Police Provincial Director Police Senior Supt. Isagani Nerez; other line member agencies, local chief executives and chiefs of police.
In a brief speech Ebdane said the training will be conducted simultaneously all over the country specifically in areas prone to floods and landslides.
“This training is in consonance with the directives of our President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to enhance the community-based disaster response system to ensure readiness to any eventuality. This will avoid the repetition of what had occurred in Bicol and in the Visayas Regions which were hit by typhoons,” Ebdane said.
Bataoil emphasized the importance of the disaster preparedness and supportive coordination of the RDCC1 and PRO-1 in time of emergencies.
