SAN FERNANDO CITY – The Pangasinan police collared a suspected extortionist reportedly a member of the Alex Buncayao Brigade (ABB) inside the compound of a catholic church in Calasiao, Pangasinan.
The police nabbed Noel B. Santos, 39, single, a second year college student from San Fernando City, Pampanga, an alleged member of the ABB operating in Region 1, in an entrapment operation inside the compound of a catholic church in Calasiao town.
The police said Santos allegedly extorted P180,000 from a certain Divina De Leon of the Provincial Engineering Office in Lingayen, Pangasinan.
The suspect was brought to the police station for custodial investigation prior to the filing of a case against him in court.
The suspect was also involved in various robbery-extortion activities in Manila and Pampanga, the police said.
Meanwhile, the operatives of Mangatarem and Bravo Company of 70th Infantry Batallion, Philippine Army recovered an Elisco M16 Armalite rifle, several magazines and ammunitions, a grenade launcher and a back bag pack of subversive documents after an encounter with armed men in a barangay in Mangatarem, Pangasinan.
Police Chief Supt. Leopoldo Bataoil, regional director, said that earlier at around 4’clock a.m.on May 15, the police operatives sighted more or less 30 heavily armed men, one of them an Amazon, believed to be members of the local communist terrorists (LCTs) headed by a certain Neptali Santos alias Ka Atong.
The encounter lasted for 30 minutes after which the rebel group fled towards the mountain.
