2 NPA guerilla fronts decimated

NARVACAN, Ilocos Sur – The communist insurgency in Ilocos Region suffered a big blow when two of its guerilla fronts were decimated by government forces recently.

Brig. General Loreto Rirao, outgoing commanding officer of the 503rd Infantry Brigade based here, said the Kilusang Larangang Gerilya Villar and Kilusang Larangang Gerilya Sandino, two New People’s Army guerilla fronts terrorizing the region, suffered significant setbacks as a result of several raids conducted by the military troops and the police.

KLG Villar is operating in the 2nd district of Ilocos Norte and 1st District of Ilocos Sur while KLG Sandino is operating in the 2nd District of Ilocos Sur.

The 503rd Brigade  reported that government troops  have seized 15 enemy camps including the main NPA camp of the Abra Provincial Party Committee at Pacoc-Talampak, Lacub, Abra which was captured by the 41st Infantry Battalion.

Government troops have also neutralized  25 communist terrorists, recovered 13 high powered firearms and seized numerous low-powered firearms while a number of Order of  Battle-listed barangays were cleared of communist terrorists’ influence.

“The seizure of various NPA firearms and war equipment, propaganda materials, personal belongings and subversive documents during encounters and raids  is the result of our unrelenting campaign to neutralize and counter terrorist attacks,”  Rirao said even as he stressed that the NPA guerrilla forces were no match to the superior strength of the combined AFP and PNP troops.

Rirao was recently assigned as the Assistant Division Commander of the 6th Infantry Division in North Cotabato. Col. Pompeyo Limbo took over as commanding officer of the 503rd Infantry Batallion based here.#
