CAMP BGEN OSCAR M FLORENDO- Typhoon Cosme left 22 persons dead and billions of agricultural products destroyed in Region 1 based on the records of the Regional Disaster and Coordinating Council (RDCC).
Police Chief Supt. Romeo C. Hilomen, PRO1 regional director and chairman of the RDCC, said 15 persons died in Pangasinan, 7 were killed in La Union, while 1 was missing and 1 injured.
Hilomen identified the casualties in La Union as Domingo Obungen of Tabtabungao, Rosario who was hit by a collapsed concrete wall; Juanita Eserio of Carunuan West, Rosario, Pepito Estacio of Raois, Rosario, Zaldy Ablog of Casantaan, Sto. Tomas, Francia Boado of San Nicolas West, Sto.Tomas, who were all hit by flying GI sheet and Leopoldo Labasan who was drowned.
In Pangasinan, the fatalities were Luigi Rosario, 20, resident of Poblacion, Lingayen who was hit by a flying object; Remedios Paulo, 72, Bolaoen, Bugallon; Nicadio Ferrer, 65, Lingayen; Elpidio Maoili , Infanta; Mario Quinto, Urdaneta City; Jose De Guzman, San Carlos City and Pacita Aquino, San Carlos who were all hit by falling debris; George Pascua, Bolasi, San Fabian and Rogelio Austria of San Carlos City who were both hit by falling mango tree; Randyl Poserio, 3; Miguel Poserio, 2 and Rodyl Poserio all from Bonuan Catacdang, Dagupan City who all drowned; Lourdes Soriano, 72, Poblacion, Bugalon who was hit by flying GI sheet; Cesario Basi, 50, Portic, Bugallon who was hit by falling coconut tree and Carlito Maganes, Salay, Mangaldan who was electrocuted.
The storm totally damaged 695 houses in La Union and 4,967 houses in Pangasinan, More than 5,400 houses were partially damaged in La Union and Pangasinan, 9,551 houses.
The typhoon damaged almost P1,422,255,045 worth of agriculture products with crops estimated at P202,912,940, fruit trees at P802,084,000 and fisheries at P417,258,100.00. (Danny Antalan)
