Region I police nab 2 PAG members, seize guns in search operation

CAMP BGEN OSCAR M FLORENDO – The Region 1 police scored in its campaign against anti-private armed groups after  suspected members of PAG were nabbed and several rifles were seized in San Manuel, Pangasinan on September 12.

Police Chief Superintendent Franklin Jesus B. Bucayu, regional director of Police Regional Office 1 (PRO1), identified the arrested suspect as Leonardo P. Sol alias Peter Sol of Barangay Flores in San Manuel town. Sol is the alleged leader of the Sol PAG Group operating in the said province.

Police Senior Superintendent Mariano Luiz M. Verzosa Jr., the Officer-in-Charge of Pangasinan PPO in his report to  Bucayu said that the operating elements confiscated from the house of Sol, one Armscor caliber 45 pistol with license and permit to carry; 1 Rock Island Cal 45 pistol; 1 Colt M16 armalite rifle; 5 magazines for cal. 45; 3 long magazines for M16 rifle; 29 live ammunition for cal 45; 54 live ammunition for M16 and thirty-eight empty shells for cal. 45.

The search team also seized in the house of Tarinay Jr., one  caliber 22 rifle, 1 magazine for cal 22; 31 live ammunition for cal 22; 5 live ammunition for cal 22 Magnum, 2 empty shells for cal 22; and 1 steel box.

Bucayu said the arrest of Sol came after the joint police operatives from Regional Intelligence Division (RID) of PRO1, Regional Public Safety Battalion 1 (RPSB1), Provincial Intelligence Branch of Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPO) and San Manuel Police Station effected the search warrants issued by Honorable Renato D. Pinlac of Regional Trial Court Branch 57 in San Carlos, Pangasinan, dated September 7, 2012 against Sol and Renato Tarinay Jr. for Illegal Possession of Firearm and Ammunition .

Gregoria Tarinay, mother of the suspect, received the said warrant as Tarinay Jr. was not at home when the police swooped down the place for the search.

The team also arrested Marcelino C. Cardenas Jr. who was inside the house of Sol when the search warrant was implemented. As of press time, the police is conducting identity check to find out if Marcelino is the same person as Jun Fabro alias “Manok” who has a pending warrant of arrest as the main suspect in the killing of Vice Mayor Bonifacio Ignacio Apilado sometime in  June 20, 2007 and Engr. Christopher B. Alfonso last August 21, 2011.

Sol and Cardenas including the confiscated pieces of evidence were brought to Pangasinan PPO wherein a case for violation of Republic Act 8294 is being readied against them.

PSSupt. Manolito C. Labador, Deputy Regional Director for Operations managing the Anti-PAG and Anti-Criminality campaigns said the colloborative efforts of all stakeholders especially the local chief executives and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) units in the area resulted in the arrest and filing of charges against 5 PAG members and seizure of 5 firearms of various caliber and hundreds of ammunitions since August. A total of 22 riding in tandem criminals engaged in killings and robberies were arrested and 203 loose firearms were seized for the first semester of this year.#
