ZAMBOANGA CITY – The senatorial bid of Team Pnoy candidate Edgardo “Sonny” Angara gets a big boost today from this city’s local officials and private groups who expressed their support for his campaign platforms, specifically one education and economic reforms.
During a campaign sortie here, a covenant called “A Pledge of Partnership” was signed by Angara and two other Team Pnoy teammates namely Sen. Francis Escudero and Grace Poe, and representatives of the Urban Poor and Homeowners Association in Zamboanga city and the Zamboanga Peninsula.
The covenant embodies their commitment to address the housing needs of the homeless and the informal sectors of the region.
It said over a hundred thousand families are still homeless in this city based on surveys, thus, efforts must be strengthened to ease the problem.
Angara agreed to work with the Sinunun Miramar Homeowners Association Inc., the different Urban Poor and Homeowners, women’s and youth organization in pursuing efforts to expand the housing and livelihood opportunities to the poor.
In his speech at the Tetuan Central School, Angara told Zamboanguenos that P200 billion is earmarked every year for education, health services and housing programs of the administrations. Of the amount, P10 billion is allocated to housing projects for informal settlers.
At the national planning meeting of the League of Sanitation Inspectors of the Philippines, Angara assured Zamboanga Mayor Celso Lobregat, House Deputy Speaker Beng Climaco and other officials of his continued support for best practices in sanitation.
He said there was a need to maintain cleanliness in the city’s public and private comfort rooms to avoid infection and prevent the outbreak of diseases like Dengue in the city.#
