CAMP BGEN OSCAR M FLORENDO- Stepping up security preparations for the barangay election on October 28, Police Chief Superintendent Ricardo C. Marquez, Regional Director of Police Regional Office 1 (PRO1) recalled police personnel who are currently under schooling to render election duties and beef-up the present workforce at the police station level.
PCSUPT Marquez said, the personnel will complement the stations with depleted personnel. “These troops will perform their election duties starting today to ensure security measures before, during and after the election,” he added.
The regional director stressed that he is more confident of deploying them because with their current schooling and experiences during the previous elections, they are expected to be ready, capable and competent in handling their responsibilities as frontliners and patrollers during the election.
He said additional personnel to include uniformed personnel performing in administrative functions will also be deployed to boost police visibility especially in main thoroughfares.
The deployment is in response to Comelec Resolution No. 9733 which deputizes the PNP to perform specific duties relative to the conduct of barangay election.
Marquez is confident that the PNP and AFP security plan laid in coordination with the Comelec and other concerned law enforcement agencies will be adequate for the purpose of ensuring secure and fair election.
He added that Joint Security Control Centers from regional down to police station level have been organized to ensure effective coordination during the election period.#
