Nutrition workers commended during Regional LUPangIlocos D/CNPC, BNS Federation’s 3rd Congress

LAOAG CITY – Nutrition workers particularly the barangay nutrition scholars (BNS) were commended for their countless efforts and selfless dedication in delivering their duties and responsibilities as nutrition volunteers in their respective communities.

 

Sangguniang Panlalawigan Member  of the 1st District of Ilocos Norte Portia Pamela R. Salenda, guest of honor and speaker, made the commendation during the  Regional LUPangIlocos District/City Nutrition Program Coordinators (D/CNPCs) and Barangay Nutrition Scholar (BNS) Federation, Inc. 3rd Congress held at the Plaza del Norte Convention Center last September 20, 2013.

 

Salenda likewise encouraged nutrition workers to continue performing their best with love and service to their fellowmen.

 

Hosted by the province of Ilocos Norte with the National Nutrition Council (NNC), Regional Office I serving as the overall coordinator of the event, this year’s regional congress kicked off with the theme, “Gutom at Malnutrisyon: D/CNPCs and BNSs, Kaagapay sa Solusyon” to highlight their important roles in addressing hunger and malnutrition in their respective localities and in line with the nutrition month celebration theme.

 

Around 800 delegates coming from the provinces of Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union and Pangasinan, including the cities of Batac, Candon, Dagupan, Laoag, San Fernando, Urdaneta, and Vigan City participated in the regional congress.

 

 The event served as a venue for the BNS to update and enhance their skills as frontline nutrition workers. The technical session provided updates/topics such as the 2012 Nutritional Guidelines for Filipinos (NGF), OPT plus updates, good agricultural practices at the community level and documenting best practices which  were discussed by invited experts in the region. 

 

The highlight of the event was the crowning of “2013 BNS Mutya ng Nutrisyon”, a fund raising drive of the LUPangIlocos BNS Federation to support the implementation of nutrition and health-related initiatives of Region 1.#
