DAGUPAN CITY – At least 10 colleges and universities in Region I were allowed to impose an increase in tuition fees this school year, the Commission on Higher Education in the region said.
Engr. Angelica Dolores, CHED supervisor, said the 10 schools have fully complied with the commission’s policies, guidelines and requirements under CHED Memorandum Order No. 3, series of 2012 for the implementation of tuition fee increase.
The schools which raised their fees include the Asbury College in Anda town, Lyceum Northwestern University in Urdaneta City, Metro Dagupan Colleges in Mangaldan town, Philippine College of Science and Technology in Calasiao town, Rosales Wesleyan Bible College in Rosales town, St. Paul College of Ilocos Sur, Lorma Colleges in San Fernando City, Northern Philippine College for Maritime, Science and Technology in San Fernando City, Oasis Educational Foundation in Balaoan town and Polytechnic College of La Union.
Dolores said the increase, which has an average of 9.8 percent or an equivalent of P23.67 per unit, shall answer for the corresponding salary increase of teachers and non-teaching staff, school improvement and return of investments.
Dolores added that before the institutions were allowed to impose an increase in fees, they were required to submit a letter of intent and a notarized certificate of compliance including the consultation signified by the students, parents and other stakeholders. #
