CAMP BGEN OSCAR M FLORENDO- The Region 1 police scored in its intensified campaign against illegal firearms and implementation of Letter of Instruction (LOI) Kontra Boga with the seizure of 209 illegal firearms and arrest of 352 persons in various police operations conducted all over the region from January to May 25 this year.
The Police Regional Office 1 (PRO1) here headed by newly-installed Acting Regional Director Police Chief Superintendent Roman A. Felix reported that a total of 114 illegal firearms were confiscated from various police operations; 56 from the implementation of search warrants; 7 from checkpoint operations; while 32 were surrendered and recovered. Out of the 209 confiscated firearms, 61 are high-powered firearms and 148 are low-powered firearms.
Based on the records, Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPO) has confiscated the highest number of firearms with a total of 64; Ilocos Sur PPO with 57; La Union PPO with 48; and Ilocos Norte PPO with 40.
The arrested persons were charged for violation of PD 1866 as amended by Republic Act 8294 and further amended by R.A. 10591.
Meanwhile, combined police operatives in Pangasinan arrested on May 26 a Barangay Kagawad identified as Armin R. Pamani, 45, and a resident of San Gabriel II, in Bayambang town after confiscating a caliber .45 Norinco, 2 magazines, a holster and assorted ammunitions during a search operation in his house recently.
The police implemented the operation by virtue of a search warrant issued by Judge Hermogenes C. Fernandez of Regional Trial Court, Branch 56, San Carlos, Pangasinan.
Joint operatives of Regional Public Safety Battalion 3rd Company (RPSB1), Pangasinan Police Provincial Office Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT), Highway Patrol Group 1(HPG1), Regional Criminal Investigation and Detective Unit 1-Special Operations Team (1RCIDU-SOT), Alaminos and Bayambang Police Stations and Pangasinan Provincial Public Safety Company (PPSC) conducted the search operation that resulted to the confiscation of the said items.#
