The Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte (PGIN) will be granting full scholarship to Aleta Nacionales, younger sister of PO2 Omar Nacionales who is one of the 44 Philippine National Police-Special Action Force (PNP-SAF) members slain during the Mamasapano encounter last January.
Governor Imee Marcos said PGIN will continue to extend assistance to the family as a way of expressing gratitude to Nacionales’ bravery and heroism.
“(Aleta Nacionales) is now a scholar of the Mariano Marcos State University College of Business, Economics and Accountancy through Sirib (Youth Office). I’m hopeful that she will be able to complete that in order to help their family,” Marcos said.
Matilde Neri, officer-in-charge of the Provincial Education Department, disclosed that Aleta will take a four-year business-related course starting school year 2015-2016. The scholarship grant includes free tuition fee and monthly allowance.
Although she studied at University of Baguio, Aleta prefers to continue her studies in the province.
After entering the service, PO2 Nacionales became the breadwinner of the family and vowed to support the education of his siblings.
Gov. Marcos said that through the scholarship grant, the provincial government hopes to lessen the financial burden of the family since their mother is presently un-employed.
“I am very thankful to Gov. Marcos because through the scholarship grant, I will still be able to pursue my brother’s (Omar) dream for me,” Aleta said in Ilocano. (Jennifer T. Pambid, PGIN-CMO)
