Kannawidan Ylocos fest kicks off January 29

VIGAN CITY – Ilocos Sur will parade Ilocano heritage in this year’s Kannawidan Ylocos Festival from January 29 to February 13.
Activities lined up include Ilocano traditions spiced with sports tournaments, concelebrated Mass and procession at the Saint Paul Cathedral, a boodle fight, dancing fountain and fireworks display, and Siglat Ilocandia (search for talented Ilocanos) Grand Finals.
Governor Ryan Singson has asked locals and visitors to experience Ilocos Sur through the 11-day event.
Other activities include: January 3 – opening ritual with various indigenous tribes of the province, opening of exhibits of products, heritage, bonsai and art, search for Little Miss Saniata 2016;
January 29-31 – water and beach competition at the Cabugao Beach Resort;
January 30-31 – table tennis tournament at the People’s Coliseum in Santo Domingo town;
January 30 to February 1 – Education Days;
January 31- Saniata pre-pageant and talent; bands in concert and competition;
February 1-5 – Technology and livelihood training;
February 1 – search for the biggest agriculture products and livestock; dance competition;
February 2 – quiz bee, poetry writing, traditional games, search for Miss Saniata 2016;
February 3 – competition among chefs, longganisa eating contest, Siglat Eskwela Awards (awarding of outstanding schools and students), fashion show and comedy night;
February 4 – art competition, Siglat Awards (awarding of outstanding barangays, groups); dinner in Filipino costume at the National Museum Ilocos region complex; Father Jose Burgos Awards; zarzuela; bingo games;
February 5 – awarding of outstanding products by the Department of Trade and Industry, and art competition featuring the Ilocano culture; evening with Filipino artists;
February 5-6 – Rodeo competition;
February 6 – drag racing in Santa Catalina, derby at the Santa Square Arena in Santa town; Mr. Kannawidan or Body Building competition, barn dance party and awarding, concert by Parokya ni Edgar;
February 6-7 – Game Fowl Expo at the Ilocos Sur Community College and Motor Show at Parada road in Santa Catalina town;
February 7 – fun run, street dancing in Vigan city; showdown;
February 13 – first Gov. Ryan Singson Motocross Cup at Bagani Campo in Candon City.
Most of the events will be at the President Elpidio Quirino Stadium in Bantay town.#
