BANNER: 44 election gun ban violators arrested in Region 1

CAMP BGEN OSCAR M FLORENDO- Region 1 police director Chief Superintendent Ericson T. Velasquez announced on Friday (February 5) that 44 persons have been arrested and 30 assorted firearms were confiscated almost one month after it implemented Comelec election gun ban all over Region 1.

Velasquez, acting regional director of Police Regional Office 1 (PRO1), said those arrested for carrying firearms, explosives and bladed weapons included forty one civilians, 2 government employees and a member of the Philippine National Police (PNP) were arrested .
The PRO1 police also seized 30 assorted firearms (9 high powered and 21 low powered); 9 bladed weapons; and 4 grenades and explosives.

Velasquez said the violators were arrested through search warrants, checkpoint operations, buy bust and police responses.

Based on records, 29 violators were arrested in Pangasinan and 5 each by La Union, Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte.

Velasquez added that more gun ban violators are expected to be arrested with the intensified and relentless implementation of Lambat-Sibat, One-Time, Big-Time, One-Time Big-Bang and other police operations in the region.

“We are expecting more violators and criminal elements to be arrested as we keep on increasing our efforts and persistent implementation of Lambat-Sibat and other PRO1’s best practices. This is to ensure safe and secured elections in Region 1 and we are committed to the enforcement of gun ban until the end of election period on June 8,” the acting regional director added.#
