VIGAN CITY – Comebacking Sangguniang Panlalawigan Member (SPM)-elect Efren “Rambo” Rafanan told mediamen that he will support Gov. Ryan Singson 100% despite the fact that he is the only “opposition” who managed to win an SPM post for Ilocos Sur’s 1st District last May 9 during a press meeting at the Masterland Building in this city, June 9.
“I admire his leadership qualities. He is a very idealistic leader, a working governor. He is that kind of governor whom we should support,” he said.
He also said he won’t just oppose and oppose because he belongs to the minority and he will not make it difficult for the council if everything discussed is for the good of the people and the province.
“We will tackle all issues squarely to make sure that the provincial board is not a rubber stamp. I’m raring to work,” he said.
Rafanan, who has been known for his hard-hitting commentaries in his radio program, first at DWRS, then at DZXE and now at DZNS, had a fallout many years back with Gov. Ryan’s father, Ex-Governor Luis “Chavit” Singson whom he admitted as a big factor in the rise of his political career.
“I would be a hypocrite if I don’t admit that Ex-Governor Chavit gave me that break, but I must say that I also worked for it and I did my best to serve as a government official when I was first elected,” he said.
Asked why he opted to run last May 9 as a provincial board candidate instead of vice governor or governor, Rafanan said he has “learned his lessons through the years.”
“No matter how popular you are if you don’t have the money and the machinery, you will lose,” he said.
He also said he would be proposing a Lakbay Aral for the provincial board within the province so that they (the SPMs) could personally look at the plight and situation of the province’s district hospitals and RHUs, the farmers and the people in general.#
