VIGAN CITY – To urge businesses in the province to follow government rules and become honest to consumers with their products and services, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) yearly gives the Bagwis Award.
DTI-Ilocos Sur provincial director Grace Lapastora said the giving of Bagwis Award is conducted during the observation of National Consumers Welfare Month every October of every year.
During the culminating activity in Ilocos Sur on October 24, Lapastora presented the Bagwis Award to 36 firms in the province.
“The award is given to them because they are following government rules. They operate smoothly their business and they have excellent relationship with their customers. They also treasure their corporate social responsibility. And they operate their firms using the system according to ISO 9001.o or Quality Management System (QMS),” said Lapastora.
Of the 36 awardees, 31 firms received the Bronze Bagwis while five were presented with Silver Bagwis.
Last year, the Golden Bagwis Award was given to all the branches of JTC Superstore in this city and the towns of Bantay and Narvacan.
“We expect that all the other business firms will follow the Bagwis awardees in becoming model businesses which are also their communities’ partner in development,” Lapastora added.
Meanwhile, part of the culminating activity was a forum wherein topics such as Cyber Security Counter Measures, Empowering Consumers in the Internet Economy, Updates on Product Standards Law, Consumers Protection on Fraud and Scam, and e-services were discussed by subject experts from select government agencies.
A ceremonial signing of the Memorandum of Agreement between the DTI and the business organizations present were also held in the event.#
