VIGAN CITY, November 10 (PIA) – A graduate of Ilocos Sur Community College (ISCC) here tops the recent Midwife Licensure Examination held this November.
Paul Mark P. Pilar, a registered nurse, is the first graduate of ISCC that topped the said board exam.
Pilar has been a contractual employee that teaches health care, caregiving, and non-professional subjects of midwifery at the ISCC since 2011.
“I only wanted my students in midwifery to believe what I am teaching, so I had to pass the board exam,” Pilar said in an interview, adding he is still incredulous of the result of the exam.
He applied to teach at ISCC by chance. He developed love for teaching until this pushed him to study midwifery at ISCC from 2011 to 2012. He resumed in 2016 and graduated only this year.
Pilar, with a rating of 88.80 percent, bested a total of 3,360 examinees. A total of 1,444 passed the board exam.
Pilar said that ISCC has a 52 percent passing rate this year.
Meanwhile, Gaisana Grace G. Divina of the University of Pangasinan also successfully passed the exam and landed fifth place with a passing rate of 87.95 percent. (PIA-1, Ilocos Sur)
