Cassava can be used to treat infertility, cancer

The cassava plant is a powerhouse of nutrients and it contains a lot of health benefits, from its roots which are loaded with Vitamin C and calcium to the leaves which are rich in protein as well as beta-carotene and lysine.
Health authorities say cassava can be used to treat both infertility and cancer and good for making the bones stronger.
Here are the health benefits that can be derived from cassava plant:
1. Protect and repair body tissue
The cassava tuber contains protein which helps in protecting and repairing body tissue. The leaves also contain different types of proteins such as lysine, isoleucine, leucine, valine, and lots of arginine.
Cassava contains almost all amino acid which can compare to eggs and soybeans as great source of proteins.
2. Lowers blood cholesterol
A study showed that cassava has not only a significant effect in decreasing total cholesterol levels, but it also decreases the low density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol or “bad” cholesterol, as it lowers the triglyceride levels due to its high dietary fibre content.
Cassava is also known as a good source of saponins. These phytochemicals can help the body lower unhealthy cholesterol levels in our bloodstream.
3. Help regulate heart rate and blood pressure
The potassium found in cassava (271 mg per 100 g or 6% of RDA) is an important component of cell and body fluids that help regulate heart rate and blood pressure.
A study showed that potassium in cassava can help in lowering the systolic blood pressure when consumed by people with high blood pressure.
4. Prevent constipation and weight loss
Cassava contains Amylose (16-17%) which is a source for major complex carbohydrate which promotes satiety .
Cassava also contains high amounts of dietary fiber, which can help prevent constipation. Fiber also helps individuals to lose weight by maintaining satiety longer, according to the Mayo Clinic website.
