LINGAYEN, Pangasinan (PIA) – At least 45 micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) from Pangasinan districts one to three underwent a free Seminar on Productivity Improvement through 5S Practice conducted by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) on Tuesday at the El Jardine Restaurant, this town.
Alexander Apostol, science research specialist II of DOST- Pangasinan, said the seminar was aimed to improve the MSMEs’ productivity through the proper implementation and practice of 5s in the company namely sort, set in order, shine, standardize, and sustain.
Speaking before the participants, Apostol explained that 5S was from five Japanese terms beginning with the letter “S” (Seiri, Seiton, Seiso, Seiketsu, Shitsuke), hence the name 5S.
“It is a systematic technique that helps organize a workplace, increase the company’s efficiency, decrease wasting and optimize quality and productivity,” said Apostol.
She said the seminar was under the DOST’s Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP) that helps MSMEs develop new products and improve their products, services, operations, productivity, and competitiveness.
MSMEs from sectors of food processing, furniture, agriculture, marine, aquaculture, forestry, livestock, metals and engineering, information and communication technology (ICT) and health and wellness sectors were the attendees of the seminar. (JNPD/EMBS/PIA-1, Pangasinan)
