Region 1 crime volume drops by 15%

CAMP BGEN OSCAR M FLORENDO – Region 1 police director Chief Superintendent Romulo E. Sapitula lauded his police personnel in Police Regional Office 1 (PRO1) for a significant decrease in its total crime volume from January to May 28, 2018 as compared to the same period last year.

PCSupt. Sapitula, PRO1’s Regional Director, said the decrease of 15.00% or 1,971 cases in the total crime volume is a good indication that the Region 1 police is doing their job well.

Based on the Crime Information and Reporting Analysis System (CIRAS) of the PRO1’s Regional Investigation and Detective Management Division (RIDMD), a total of 11,180 crime volume recorded this year compared to the same period last year with 13,151 total crime volumes.

On index crimes, comprised of crimes against persons such as murder, homicide, physical injury and rape, and crimes against property such as robbery, theft, carnapping and cattle rustling recorded a total of 26% decrease or 456 cases or a total of 1,303 in 2018 while 1,759 in 2017.

Meanwhile, on non-index crimes, a total of 13.30% or 1,515 decline was recorded wherein a total of 9,877 cases of this year as compared to 11,392 last year. Non-Index Crimes include reckless imprudence resulting to homicide, physical injuries and damage to property; and violation of special laws such as illegal drugs, illegal logging, loose firearms, illegal fishing and local ordinances to include other crimes not included in the index-crimes.

PCSupt. Sapitula further explained that the decrease of both the index and non-index crimes is the result of the aggressive anti-criminality drive and stricter implementation of the anti-illegal drugs campaign all over the region to include the stern enforcement of special laws and other law enforcement initiatives.

“This is also a result of a more active partnership and cooperation with other law enforcement agencies, local government units and most especially with the community whom we serve and protect,” the Regional Director added. (PNP Regional Public Information Office, PRO1)
