CAMP BGEN OSCAR M FLORENDO – Police Regional Office 1 under the leadership of Police Chief Superintendent Romulo E. Sapitula, Regional Director, with its intensified efforts on enforcement of laws and local ordinances against street crimes region wide, apprehended a total of 2,281 against street crimes wherein 326 apprehended due to drinking in prohibited places; 125 caught smoking in public areas; 64 half naked in public places; 1,313 apprehended due to violation of curfew hours and 453 apprehended for violations of other ordinances to include Trouble, Stoning, Gang Wars, Urinating in Public Places, Loitering and No wearing of Helmets. Said apprehended persons were later on released after safekeeping.
RD Sapitula directed PNP units in the region to implement OPLAN RODY (Rid the Streets of Drinkers and Youth) in line with the intention of the President Rodrigo Duterte on eliminating violators of city/municipal ordinance in the country.
RD Sapitula reiterated the Chief, PNP’s directive: “Our intention is not to ruin your leisure time or to accuse you of anything, but it is a proactive way of preventing crimes. He added that this is just a collaboration of several ordinances known to everyone.
Police Superintendent Cherry M. Fajardo, PRO1 Spokesperson, said street crimes are not new and are common problems of the community nowadays. Several ordinances especially curfew hours were implemented however, problems still exist. And it is the responsibility of the PNP to trap and pin down the sources of any disorder in the community. That is why the main efforts of the Police Regional 1 are focused in maintenance of peace and order and continuously conduct law enforcement against street crimes.
