LAOAG CITY — The complete set of young and modern Ilocanas, representing the 21 towns and two cities of Ilocos Norte, are in full swing for the Grand Coronation Night of the 2019 edition of Miss Ilocos Norte pageant tomorrow, May 8, 7:30 pm at the Ilocos Norte Centennial Arena, Laoag City.
“Miss Ilocos Norte is the final activity of the La Milagrosa Provincial Fiesta. It is our way to give the outstanding and deserving Ilocana a privilege of being the provincial ambassadress on youth affairs, education, tourism, and environmental conservation, among others.
“She will also be given scholarship and career opportunities, and will have the chance to promote our province through a national pageant competition in one of the biggest television network in the country,” Mr. Aian Raquel, head of the Ilocos Norte Tourism Office (INTO), mentioned during the press presentation of Miss Ilocos Norte candidates, last April 24.
Meanwhile, the local government of Laoag City announced earlier that their official representative will not participate on this year’s pageant, but through the support of Ilocos Norte Travel Agencies Association (INTAA), Ilocos Norte Tour Guides League Inc., and Panlalawigang Pederasyon ng Sangguniang Kabataan ng Ilocos Norte (PPSK), 2019 Miss Laoag City, Keisha Valerio Baldonado, resigned from her post and bravely auditioned for the pageant, completing the whole set of 23 empowered women of the North.
The candidates officially started the competition by exhibiting their swimwear during the 7th Himala sa Buhangin held at the Paoay Sand Dunes last April 30.
Governor Imee R. Marcos initiated the Himala! Festival to immerse the youth in arts and music, as well as to encourage their active participation in various art medium.
Furthermore, last May 3, the candidates participated in a “Resiliency Challenge” initiated by the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and Philippine Red Cross (PRC) in which they experienced the different disaster-preparedness activities. They also took an examination to gauge their knowledge on first aid measures.
While on May 5, the candidates displayed their Ilocano terno and elegant evening gowns during the Preliminary Competition at the Provincial Capitol Grounds.
A Fashion Show segment as part of the Miss Ilocos Norte pageant was also held yesterday, at the Robinsons Place Ilocos, also serving as an avenue for Ilocano fashion designers to display locally-produced handwoven inabel fabrics. The candidates walk down the runway and flaunted their inabel attires.
On the same event, only six aspiring candidates showcased their individual talents namely: Miss Bacarra as best in talent, and Miss Solsona and Miss Marcos as second and third placers, respectively. The other three candidates who participated in the talent portion were Miss Dumalneg, Miss Dingras, and Miss Pasuquin.
The winners of the resiliency challenge, texters and social media choice will automatically secure a spot in the top 13 on the finals night.
