CAMP BGEN OSCAR M FLORENDO – A total of 26,736 personalities allegedly involved in illicit drugs trade surrendered to the police starting in July 1 as a result of the intensified war waged by the police regional office here against narcotics.
Police Regional Director Chief Superintendent Gregorio R. Pimentel said 26,736 drug personalities consisting of 24,873 users and 1,863 pushers have surrendered to the police from July 1 to August 8, 2016..
Based on the report, Pangasinan registered the highest number of surrenderees with 12,561; followed by Ilocos Norte with 5,249; Ilocos Sur with 4,752; and La Union with 4,174.
The surrenderees have signed a pledge of commitment vowing to change their ways and support the government’s intensified campaign against illegal drugs in Region 1.
Pimentel added that 252 arrests were made by the police at checkpoints, while serving warrants of arrest and search warrants, Oplan Sita, and during buy-bust operations with 23 nabbed in Pangasinan, 111 in La Union, 36 in Ilocos Sur and 82 in Ilocos Norte.
Based on records, a total of 23 drug personalities were killed in separate armed encounters during the said period with 19 slain in Pangasinan, one in Ilocos Sur and 3 in Ilocos Norte.
Pimentel said that his office and all police stations under his command are ready and open 27/7 to accept drug personalities who want to surrender.
The regional director also warned his personnel to stay away from illegal drugs activities and never get involved in drug syndicates.
