SAN FERNANDO CITY – Three hundred six police personnel composing the Police Regional Office 1 (PRO1) Civil Disturbance Management (CDM) contingent were deployed in Metro Manila to augment the security during the second State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Benigno Simeon C. Aquino III which coincided with the opening of the 15th Philippine Congress today.
The PRO1 CDM contingent composing 259 police personnel from the 1st Regional Public Safety Battalion (RPSB1), 41 from the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPO), 4 from the Regional Health Service 1 (RHS1), and 2 Radio Operators/Technicians from the Regional Tactical Operations and Intelligence Center (RTOIC) was led by Police Senior Superintendent Alejandro M. Valerio, battalion commander of RPSB1, together with eight other police commissioned officers.
Police Chief Superintendent Franklin Jesus B. Bucayu, Region 1 police director, said the PRO1 contingent went through refresher courses on CDM, human rights, and the PNP operational procedures (POP) at least a week before their deployment to ensure their readiness for the said undertaking.
“We conducted the mandatory CDM refresher and the seminars on human rights and POP in order to prepare our policemen physically and mentally, so that they will be able to handle any incident that may arise during the SONA,” PCSupt Bucayu added.
The regional director also emphasized to the members of the PRO1 contingent to observe maximum tolerance and exercise utmost respect for human rights “to prove to the protesters that Region 1 cops are indeed human rights advocates.”#
