4 cities, 71 towns sign peace covenant

SAN FERNANDO CITY – Candidates for local posts from four cities and 71 municipalities have signed peace covenants and attended the mass for peace held in the different parishes on April 1 to ensure an honest, orderly and peaceful conduct of elections in the region.

The PNP regional office headed by P/Chief Supt. Leopoldo Bataoil here reported that 26 municipalities in Pangasinan, 15 in La Union and 34 in Ilocos Sur including the cities of Dagupan and San Carlos, in Pangasinan, and Vigan and Candon of Ilocos Sur participated in the signing of the covenants and mass for peace.

In Ilocos Norte, PS/Supt. Roman Felix, provincial director, reported that he has already coordinated with Bishop Utleg of the Diocese of  Ilocos Norte, the PPCRV and the Comelec for the conduct of a mass for peace for all candidates in the province.

Bataoil praised the bishops and priests in Region 1 for their support to the mass for peace and covenant signing which was initiated by the PNP.

Bataoil said this is a meritorious achievement of every citizen here in Region 1 even as he added that “this is because everybody wants a peaceful and credible election.”

Bataoil said that the other towns have scheduled their mass for peace through the coordination of the chiefs of police with their respective parish priests, the Comelec and PPCRV.
