SAN FERNANDO CITY – Five hundred forty nine persons were arrested and 119 firearms were confiscated since January 10 to February 23, 2016 in police operations and all-out campaign for “Secure and Fair Elections 2016.
In his report during the meeting of the Regional Joint Security Control Center (RJSCC) held at the Concord Building on February 24, Police Chief Supt. Ericson T. Velasquez, Regional Director of Police Regional Office, said 278 violators were arrested by the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office; 102 by the Ilocos Sur PPO, 96 by the La Union PPO, and 73 by the Ilocos Norte PPO thru the implementation of checkpoints, search warrants, warrant of arrests and police response.
Velasquez said 62 firearms were confiscated by the Pangasinan police, 21 guns by La Union, 23 by Ilocos Sur and 13 by Ilocos Norte.
“This accomplishment is the result of our earnest commitment and our continuing and intensified focused police operations in partnership with other law enforcement agencies,” Velasquez added.
The regional director likewise advised his field commanders to be ready in any eventuality and prepare for contingency measures for SAFE 2016.
Meanwhile, on the implementation of “Oplan Katok” the Region 1 police visited 1,869 gun holders to remind them on the requirements of the firearms law particularly on the License to Own and Possess Firearms (LTOPF). Based on records, 84 political candidates and 265 civilians have deposited their firearms for safekeeping as a result of the strict implementation of the Comelec gun ban by the police.#
