61 cops attend police tourist training

CAMP BGEN OSCAR M FLORENDO – Sixty police officers participated in a five-day tourist training at the police regional office 1 here recently.

The participants, composed of 59 Police Non-Commissioned Officers (PNCOs) and 1 Police Commissioned Officer (PCO), are designated tourist police in police stations in the police provincial offices of Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union and Pangasinan, particularly those municipalities with tourists’ destinations.

“This tourist police training aims to keep you abreast of the latest development in this particular field of police endeavor. It is designed not only to equip you with the requisite knowledge and skills, but also to train you on the proper attitude of an exceptional tourist police,” Senior Superintendent Benjamin T. Hulipas emphasized during the opening of the training last June 4.

He pointed out to the participants that said training requires extreme discipline, understanding and self confidence to respond swiftly but calmly to any situation. He also cited the fact that tourist police in most cases are the first responders.

The Department of Tourism (DOT) conducted lectures and practical exercises on basic intelligence, police first responders, crisis incident management, first aid, disaster search and rescue, child wise tourism, and language proficiency during the five-day training.

The Tourist Police Training is part of the In-Service Training Program of PRO1 purposely to enhance the knowledge and skills of the tourist police especially in providing security of tourists to ensure their safety while they are in the area of responsibility (AOR).#
