Abra records 4th COVID-19 case, places affected areas on lockdown

BAGUIO CITY — Several locations in La Paz town in Abra were placed on total lockdown starting June 6 after Abra province recorded its fourth case of COVID-19.

La Paz town mayor Ching Bernos placed northern portions of barangay Poblacion, including Purok Uno, Purok Dos and Purok Tres were placed on a one-week lockdown until June 13 amid the discovery of a medical front liner turning positive of COVID-19.

After two months being COVID19-free, Abra recorded the case of the first medical front liner to be infected with the dreaded virus— a 32-year-old female from the private-run Seares Memorial Hospital in Bangued, Abra’s capital town.  She is asymptomatic but is suffering from asthma and has no travel history outside of her province since the quarantine imposition.

“AC4” was quarantined at the hospital where she works and a massive contact tracing was launched immediately, said Abra Governor Jocelyn Bernos.

The entire Seares Memorial Hospital was placed under lockdown.

Gov. Bernos in her official statement on Friday said barangay Poblacion in La Paz town, where AC4 comes from, was placed under extreme enhanced community quarantine where no one is allowed to enter or go out from the hospital and the said barangay without authorization from the provincial IATF.

Gov. Bernos urged her provincemates to stay home and limit unnecessary travel outside their homes and observe minimum health standards while remaining vigilant against the virus.

The lady governor appealed to those who may have been in contact with AC4 to cooperate with authorities to effectively manage the new COVID-19 case in the province.

This after all three positive patients from the province recovered mid-April, when AC2 and AC3 tested negative mid-April and were discharged from the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center, while first COVID-19 patient of the province, AC1, also the first positive patient in the Cordillera region, was sent home on April 2, 2020.  AC2 and AC3, are father and son from Sallapadan town, who are close relatives of AC1, the seafarer from Manabo town.

Cordillera region has at present a total of 8 active cases:  1 in Abra, 5 in Baguio, and 2 in Benguet with so far only 1 death (Baguio).●
