Alleged gun-for-hire shot dead in Badoc, Ilocos Norte

CAMP BGEN OSCAR M FLORENDO – A carpenter was shot dead by still unidentified suspects today, August 16, 2018, 1:05 in the afternoon in Brgy. Saud, Badoc, Ilocos Norte.

Police Senior Inspector Arnel M Tabaog, Chief of Police, Badoc MPS identified the victim as Rogelio Dagupion Riñen aka Edwin, 49 years old, married, carpenter and a resident of Sitio Paratung, Brgy. Saud, Badoc, Ilocos Norte.

The suspect was allegedly a gun-for-hire used by some politicians in Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte, and was one of the suspects in the killing of Ilocos Norte Electric Cooperative (INEC) Board President, Director Rey Ruiz on September 4, 2009, according to a press release by the PNP.

He was also allegedly involved in illegal drug activities in the his hometown, according to PCSupt Romulo E Sapitula, PRO1 Regional Director.

Based on the initial investigation, the victim was onboard a black motorcycle Motopost bearing plate no. 6020 when he was chased and shot several times by unidentified male persons on board a red sedan with no available plate number. The suspects fled to unknown direction bringing along with them the firearm used. No fired cartridge cases were recovered in the crime scene.

Riñen sustained gunshot wounds in his body and was rushed at Sto. Cristo Milagroso Hospital, Sinait, Ilocos Sur but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

PCSupt Sapitula ordered the conduct of manhunt operation for possible identification and arrest of the suspects. He also instructed the Chief of Police, Badoc MPS to maximize their efforts in the immediate solution of the case. (TNM/PNP PRO1 PIO)
