BANNER NEWS: Hold-upper killed in shoot-out with cops

SAN FERNANDO CITY – A notorious hold-upper and illegal drug trader was killed in an alleged shoot-out with policemen in Sitio Bliss, Bonuan Binloc, Dagupan City, Pangasinan at around 1:15 in the morning of September 30.

Police identified the suspect as Richard Callanta also known as Kulot, of legal age and resident of Mayombo District of said city.

In a report to Police Regional Office 1(PRO1) Director Chief Superintendent Roman A. Felix, Dagupan City Police Chief P/Supt. Christopher N. Abrahano, (COP) said that Callanta was cornered near the junction of Sitio Silungan in Binloc after he ignored a police checkpoint while on board a black motorcycle without plate number. The suspect refused to surrender and fired at the police prompting the lawmen to retaliate and exchange gun fire.

Abrahano said the wounded suspect was rushed by the police to Region 1 Medical Center, but he was declared dead on arrival (DOA) by the attending physician.

Confiscated from the suspect were 9mm semi-automatic pistol with defaced serial number, a magazine containing 5 live ammunition and a holster containing 2 heat sealed sachets of suspected shabu.

Callanta is one of the PNP’s target list for his alleged involvement in several robbery hold-up incidents and illegal drug trade within the city and in nearby towns, Abrahano said.#
