BANNER NEWS: Ilocos Sur governor hopes for Ilocanos’ best qualities to prevail in hosting Palarong Pambansa 2018

VIGAN CITY –Ilocanos are known for their hospitality, diligence and humility so these must be the qualities of residents in the province that will prevail when they will have about 15,000 visitors during the Palarong Pambansa 2018 (National Games) that will open on April 15 at the President Elpidio Quirino stadium in Bantay town.

Ryan Luis V Singson, Ilocos Sur Governor, said that some of the regions will be in the province in the third week of this month to get the feel of the sporting venues so every resident is urged to help in welcoming them, treating them with respect, hoping that they will show what the Ilocanos are made of.

The Governor said that all residents are urged to help in the biggest games event in the province which will usher additional income to all sectors of the community. Therefore, keeping peace in all corners of the province should be shouldered by every resident in cooperation with the peace-keeping forces led by the Philippine National Police. The effort must not only come from them, but also from each resident to ensure the safety of every athlete, coach, visitor who will come to the province starting on the third week of March.

There will be 14 towns that will host the visitors from 17 regions of the country so the PNP forces in these towns are also prepared with their peace-keeping plans to secure them. PNP Vigan City Chief Marlo Castillo said that his team is ready for the games and is continuously preparing other plans to meet demands during the games. But all their efforts will be complete with the cooperation of the whole community, of every resident.

The President Elpidio Quirino stadium’s state-of-the-art facilities like the touch-pad swimming pool and oval with artificial grass are one of the top reasons why the Palaro will be held in the province this year, Singson said. So, to keep peace and order in all the venues, the ID system must be strictly observed. He warned those who are planning to use his name to freely enter or do their business in these areas, as he ordered concerned offices and residents to report incidents like this to his office.

To prevent clogging of streets and avoid road accidents in the World Heritage City of Vigan where visitors crowd the narrow streets even during regular days, the City Government of Vigan led by Mayor Juan Carlo S Medina has prepared measures to lessen vehicles, especially tricycles plying these streets.

The provincial government has also come up with the Metro Vigan Traffic Coordinating Council which has been organized to plan, implement and maintain smooth traffic flow in the areas affected like this city and the towns of Caoayan, San Vicente, Santa Catalina and Bantay.

This huge event will not only inspire the youth of the province and the entire country but will also usher additional livelihood and increase the income of families in the province, the Governor said. (JND/ICR/PIA1 Ilocos Sur)
