VIGAN CITY – We are ready to host all 6 regions and we have prepared for that.
This was assured by newly-installed Vigan City Assistant Schools Division Superintendent (ASDS) Meneleo Palma when asked about the readiness of Vigan City to host such big number of Palaro delegates, during a Kapihan Iti Amianan Media Forum at the Vigan City Division Office, March 19 evening.
Palma said that the six regions and their billeting schools are the following: Region IX (Zamboanga Peninsula) – Vigan Central School and Burgos West Elementary School; Region III (Central Luzon) and Region 11 (Davao) – Ilocos Sur National High School; Region VIII (Eastern Visayas) and Region XII (Socsargen) – (UNP) AND Region IV-A (CALABARZON) will be housed at Nagsangalan and Rugsuanan Elementary Schools.
“Vigan City has also offered some playing venues for various events. These playing areas are UNP (throwing event); Baluarte Function Hall (chess); Tamag covered court (penkak silat); ICST (sepak takraw); ICMS (football); Cuta covered court (wrestling); Ayusan Norte and Beddeng (volleyball boys and girls); Plaza Burgos (boxing); Vigan Convention Center (badminton) and billiards will be played at the Lyric Billiards Hall,” he said.
Vigan City Division, he said, is fielding 12 athletes to the Palarong Pambansa this year.
“Actually, we won 12 golds which is 6 in regular events and 6 in special events, in the last Region I Athletic Association (R1AA) this year from mere 5 golds last year and these athletes will compete this coming Palaro. We have 3 joining Region I’s basketball team, 3 in taekwondo, 3 in table tennis and 3 in billiards,” he said.
He also said that all security measures, transportation and problems on traffic are being addressed.
“There will be 4 police officers assigned in each billeting school, 2 in every playing venue and the barangay tanods are also tapped. Transport vehicles will be provided by the provincial government and the regional office,” he said.
He said that Ilocos Sur won over Baguio City, Isabela, Tarlac, Bulacan and Marikina in the bidding procedures at the DepEd Central Office on September 27, 2017.
“It has been the dream of Governor Ryan to host the Palaro, so he has prepared well the Quirino Stadium which is now a national pride as the main venue of many of the games,” he said.
Palma is a former Education Supervisor of the Ilocos Sur Division but is recently appointed as the OIC ASDS of Vigan City. He used to manage all sports events in Ilocos Sur Division. (Edward B. Antonio)
