BANNER: Vigan PNP chief to deploy bike, calesa patrols

VIGAN CITY – To boost the security and tourism industry, Vigan PNP Chief Jugith del Prado said that the PNP will soon deploy policemen in bikes clad in civilian clothes and PNP calesa patrols attired ala-guardia civil during the Spanish era at the Heritage Village along Crisologo Street in this city, during a press meeting, May 27.

Del Prado said the added guardia civil attraction will also help maintain security in the area in the light of the numerous crime incidents in the city particularly by those victimizing local and foreign tourists.

He also said that the PNP has solved the many motornapping incidents in the city perpetrated by Vigan and non-Vigan culprits.

“We were able to establish the identities of the carnappers and we have filed the necessary cases against them,” he said.

He also said that the motornapping incidents were also relevant to drugs, drag-racing and gambling.

“These people were equipped with false keys (master keys) particularly for Honda and Mio ignition switch,” he said.

Asked on the problem of drugs in the city, he said that 9 Vigan city barangays have been affected but the PNP has so far apprehended and arrested 23 drug personalities.

“Of the Top 10 drug personalities, only one is left for arrest, but we will soon catch up with him with the aid of community people who want a drug-free community,” he said.

He also said that they are also in hot pursuit of for 14 more subjects, 4 of which are from Vigan City.

“The others are transients, and we have neutralized them, too, through the help of some informants,” he said.

On the city’s traffic problems, the PNP, he said, is well in coordination with the city’s Public Safety Office in maintaining smooth traffic flow.

Del Prado said he is in favor of presumptive President Rodrigo Duterte’s incoming declaration of liquor ban and curfew for minors at wee evening hours as these will favor the safety and well-being of the people particularly the minors. (EDWARD ANTONIO)
