LUNA, Apayao — Two Ilocos Sur writers topped the On-The-Spot Poetry Writing Contest in Ilocano during the 51st GUMIL-Filipinas National Convention held at the Agri-Tourism and Sports Complex here, Apr. 26-28, 2019, sponsored by the Puntanians of Italy.
Danilo Bautista of San Juan, Ilocos Sur won first place with his poem, “Siak Ita ti Dios a Mangtippuog iti Templo Dagiti Didiosen,” while Edward Antonio of Tawid News Magazine bagged 2nd place with his entry, “Dagiti Ganggandiong a Mesias.” The theme of the contest was “Politika/Eleksyon Bayat ti Dap-ayan 2019.”
Both Bautista and Antonio are active members of GUMIL Ilocos Sur and the Ilocos Sur Integrated Press (ISIP).
Bautista received P5,000 plus certificate while Antonio had P3,000 plus certificate.
Other winners were: 3rd Placer Hilario Espiritu of Ilocos Norte (Saan nga Umulog Dagiti Didiosen), Rolando Seguro of Cagayan, 4th (Pumarasapasen Dagiti Kaibaan), Freddie Masuli of Cagayan, 5th, (Panaggiinnala Dagiti Agila) and Renato Taylan of GUMIL Ilocos Norte, 6th. Espiritu received P1,000 plus certificate while those from 4th to 6th received P500 each plus certificate. Forty-seven Ilocano writers from all over the country joined the contest.
Serving as members of the board of judges were poetry greats Daniel Nesperos (chairman), Roy Vadil Aragon (member) and Benjamin Pacris (member). Pacris was also the project coordinator.
The Puntanians of Italy are headed by philanthropists Artemio “Smith” Raguindin and Anselmo Racadio, perennial sponsors of the event.
