BNSs of Region I to hold its 8th Regional Conference


The LUPang Ilocos Barangay Nutrition Scholars Federation, Inc. (LUPangIlocosBNSFed.,Inc.) and the National Nutrition Council- Regional Office I (NNC-ROI) will be holding the 8th Regional Conference of Barangay Nutrition Scholars with the theme: “BNS: Bayani ng Nutrisyon, Noon, Ngayon at Bukas!” on October 09-10, 2018 at Vigan Convention Center, Vigan City, Ilocos Sur.

More than 1,700 BNSs from the 4 provinces and 9 cities in the region are expected to attend the activity.

This is an annual event of the LUPangIlocosBNSFed.,Inc. which aims to update and equip its members with knowledge and skills to sustain efficient and effective management of local nutrition programs especially at the barangay level.

Also, a venue to hold the annual general assembly among its members and to strengthen the overall operation of the organization.

This year’s conference focuses on the responsibilities of the Barangay Nutrition Scholars on the implementation of the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) 2017-2022, a national plan that addresses the malnutrition problem of the country.

Director Valeriano Jesus Lopez of the Department of Health- Region I and the chairperson of the Regional Nutrition Committee will be gracing the event.

The recent change in leaderships at the barangay level is a challenge and a threat that might affect the implementation and sustainability of the BNS program, however through the conduct of this activity, the BNSs will be empowered to continue to deliver efficient nutrition services for the betterment of nutrition and quality of life of their constituents in their respective barangays.

The BNS Program was created under Presidential Decree (PD) 1569 of 1978 and the nation is celebrating its 40th anniversary recognizing the BNSs as the unsung nutrition heroes.
