IGUIG, Cagayan — Media practitioners of Cagayan have put into action their commitment to be part of the environment department’s undertaking and support to the national greening program as they joined hands planting trees in Iguig town.
The tree planting activity is part of the “Broadcastreeing” project of the media group here originally scheduled last October 1 but was re-scheduled today due to typhoons “Pedring and Quiel.”
Through the Informers Club (i-Club) headed by the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) and Kapisanan ng mga Broadcaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) chaired by Sherwin Racelies, Bigsound FM manager, 500 mahogany seedlings were planted in a watershed area which was earlier identified as part of the national greening program of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
The activity took off in partnership with the local government of Iguig, together with officials from the Philippine Army (PA), Philippine National Police (PNP), Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), Barangay officials of Brgy. Garab and some volunteer individuals.
Bobby Daguio, station manager of DZGR Bombo Radyo Tuguegarao, said the activity is not just a simple tree planting, it is a serious commitment of media pratictioners of re-greening the country to mitigate climate change’ effects.
He said the LGU-Iguig, through Mayor Juditas Trinidad, vowed to ensure the sustainability and survival of the planted trees.
The broadcasters, writers, technicians from the different stations to include DWPE-Radyo ng Bayan, FBN-DZCV, RPN-DZTG, RJ FM, Clearview Cable TV, DZGR-Bombo Radyo, Bigsound FM and PIA joined the said activity. The group is also planning another activity in partnership with LGU-Iguig in the near future.#
