Cops train for Android telephone directory application

CAMP BGEN OSCAR M FLORENDO – As part of PNP’s drive to improve law enforcement capability through information technology, Police Regional Office 1 under the leadership of PCSupt. Ricardo C. Marquez, conducted the field testing of the Android PNP Telephone Directory Application for the cops from the different police stations of Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte, La Union and Pangasinan at the Concord Building here on April 11.

Police Senior Supt. Dennis A. Siervo, Chief of System Integration Management Division, Directorate for Information, Communication and Technology Management based in Camp Crame, said that the modern telephone directory using Android devices will bridge the digital divide and gap in communication between PNP offices/units.

Siervo also added that the application shall empower the community to actively participate in law enforcement activities such as crime and incident reporting; crime prevention and as a tool to promote police community relations

Similar to the “e-warrant” and “e-blotter” systems, the primary goal of the activity is to enhance the total capability of the police in crime prevention and crime solution through the fastest, most modernized communication and information technology available.

Representing the regional director was Senior Supt. Angelito D. Dumangeng, Chief of Regional Operations and Plans Division who encouraged all the participants to purchase a tablet themselves and learn very well the application.

“Ang mga kriminal ay patuloy ring nagiging mas matalino, at moderno kung kayat napakahalaga na ang pulisya ay hindi mapag-iwanan upang hindi maging katatawanan lamang nila at ng publiko,” Dumangeng said.

“Being fast and accurate in communication and information shall make a big difference in the success of police operations; similarly, if crime solution is fast then people shall return back more trust and cooperation to their police force,” he  added.#
