CANDON CITY – Budding Ilocano writers are invited to join the veterans at the 6th Pasnaan (Anvil) in this city’s North Luzon Philippines State College on September 10-12 to have an exchange of learning on the various aspects of writing.
Ten veteran writers will help the neo writers immerse in the beautiful world of writing in the Iloco language, said Arthur P. Urata, Sr., president of the Ilocano Writers’ Association of the Philippines or Gunglo dagiti Mannurat nga Ilokano (GUMIL)-Filipinas.
Pasnaan, the Iloco word for anvil, symbolizes the hard work by which writers are made. Writers are bent, made pliable and put under fire to be formed into the model writer, Urata said.
“Pasnaan is the exchange of learning of new writers with veterans in the same language. It will continue to help GUMIL in guiding budding writers to fulfill their dreams as writers and to promote Ilocano literature and Iloco language,” Urata said.
The ten writers who will join the writing event include Jimmy R. Agustin of Canayun of Abulug, Cagayan; Gynelle D. Follante of Pamplona, Cagayan; Kisses M Ganapin of Patac, Galimuyod, Ilocos Sur who will lecture on poetry for children; Edmundo A. Bisquera of Urdaneta City, Pangasinan; Nestor Gonzales of San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte; and June Agsi Gaygayed of San Isidro, Candon who will teach poetry.
Short Story writing will be shared by Joseph C. Ganabo, Aldrine Molina, Donna Joy Wagayen of Candon City, and Marie Rose Quitoriano-Rabang of Sta Catalina town.
Panelists will include Ilocano critics like Cles B. Rambaud, Juan Al Asuncion, Roy V. Aragon, Joel B. Manuel, Daniel L. Nesperos, John Buhay, Estela Bisquera-Guerrero, Sherma E Benosa, Neyo Mario E Valdez and Junley L. Lazaga.#
