DILG brings federalism roadshow to Ilocos Region

DAGUPAN CITY – The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) will bring its regional roadshow for federalism at the CSI Stadia in this city today October 10 until October 11 to generate support for the shift to a federal form of government.

Olivia Mae De Guzman, federalism regional focal person from DILG in the Ilocos, said the Federalism Roadshow seeks to shape public opinion and build voter’s understanding and trust towards the shift to Federalism, and to strengthen stakeholder linkages and partnerships.

On orders of the President, the DILG acts as the head of an inter-agency team tasked to advocate for constitutional reform towards federalism.

DILG, in partnership with the city government of Dagupan and the Philippine Information Agency (PIA), will conduct activities for the roadshow such as media forum, interviews, a Pederalismoserye Town Hall Meeting with basic sectors, and a convention/rally for federalism.

On day one today, PIA has arranged the guesting of Consultative Committee (ConCom) commissioners to various local radio/TV/cable stations to intensify information drive and increase public awareness about the proposed shift to federalism.

Then, a media forum will take place at the VIP Room of the CSI Stadia here on October 10 at 1PM to be participated in by some 100 media practitioners across the region and information officers (IOs) from various line agencies and local government units (LGUs).

Two ConCom commissioners will serve as panelists who are Commissioners of the Consultative Committee to Review the 1987 Constitution.

There will be an open forum to give the media-participants and IOs an opportunity to raise their issues and concerns which could be an input into the work of the Consultative Committee.

On the second day, a town hall meeting will be held to discuss various issues and concerns from different sectors of the communities on the proposed Federal Constitution.

In the afternoon, a political rally will be conducted during the federalism convention to be participated in by some 3,000 participants composed of various stakeholders, LGUs, sectoral groups, and other supporters of Federalism and constitutional reforms from the different provinces of Ilocos Region.

After this public awareness campaign, trained resource speakers from DILG and PIA in Region I will further the advocacy through an information drive in barangays and universities to help spread knowledge on implementing the transition stage.

DILG invites the public to participate in the roadshow in order to learn more about President Duterte’s desire to shift the current unitary system to a federal setup. (April M. Montes-Bravo / PIA-1, Pangasinan)
