SANTA, Ilocos Sur — Young and brilliant former mayor and incumbent Vice Mayor Jeremy Jesus “JJ” Bueno III of this town said he strongly endorses agriculture courses for high school graduates so as to assure the continuity of agricultural production by our farmers.
In a press meeting with the Ilocos Sur Integrated Press at his residence here last April 9, Bueno, the brainchild of “Santa Cares Program” that has assured the people of quality and free health services, has designed anew a scholarship program that is now currently providing free licensure examination review for agricultural course graduates not only from Santa or Ilocos Sur but also from other provinces.
“We have been doing this already, in fact, 80% of the board passers from the Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College are products of our free licensure review program. We benefit from RA 7171 and from our rice and corn productions, yet the youth of today are choosing other courses to cope up with the changing times, leaving our farms with nobody to take care of in the future,” he said.
Bueno’s “Santa Cares Program” is now adopted by other towns and provinces. He said that long before the Universal Health Care Law was signed and even before Senatoriable Bong Go came out with his Malasakit Centers, Santa has already been doing it through its “Santa Cares” that assures the people of free, quality education with the aid of Philhealth and pharmacies, hospitals and other stakeholders. “Santa Cares” also has expanded its health care program to the treatment of cancer and kidney malfunction through dialysis.
He also said he has again designed a program that will give land to the landless farmers.
“How can you say they are farmers when they don’t have a farm of their own?” he said.
Bueno is the son of incumbent Santa Mayor Jesus “Popoy” Bueno Sr. A former president of the league of law students nationwide, his “Santa Cares Program” is a national awardee for its health services to the people.
