DOST holds job hunting seminar for scholars

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan – The Department of Science and Technology-Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) conducted a seminar on job hunting and employment generation at the Pangasinan State University (PSU) campus in this town recently to equip graduating DOST scholars with skills and knowledge for career opportunities. 

The seminar was conducted in partnership with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)-Western Pangasinan, Public Employment Service Office (PESO)-Pangasinan and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) to introduce DOST scholars to the resources and skills needed for job hunting as they are soon to graduate in college and be contributors to the larger society. 

“Let us all put into our minds that we are scholars for a reason. And we are scholars because in our minds and in our hearts, we shall give back glory for our beloved country’s definite needs,” PSU Vice President for Student Affairs, Dr. Manolito Manuel said in his welcome remarks.

The seminar was participated in by 133 DOST scholars from PSU campuses in Alaminos City, Bayambang, Binmaley, Lingayen, San Carlos City, Sta. Maria and Urdaneta City, including those from Colegio de Dagupan and Urdaneta City University.

Lectures on job hunting include the discussion on Project Jobs Fit, Key Employment Generators, In-demand/Hand-to Fill and Cross Cutting Occupations Emerging Industries.

DOLE-Western Pangasinan also introduced the stages of employment to the scholars. A mock interview session followed the lectures on job hunting in preparation for a mini jobs fair which was held a day after the seminar wherein local companies were invited to encourage and select potential applicants to their companies.
