DOST recognizes meat processing firm as Best SETUP Adoptor

TAGUIG CITY – With the theme “Juan Science, One Nation,” the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) 1 recently concluded the National Science and Technology Week Celebration by recognizing outstanding SETUP Adoptors led by MGN Frozen Foods as Best Regional SETUP Adoptor for 2015.

DOST Regional Director Dr. Armando Q. Ganal led the awarding of the plaque of recognition to Mr. and Mrs. Nerio Gacutan, owners of MGN Frozen Foods, during the closing ceremony of the NSTW celebration, aside from the P10,000.00 cash  and certificate of recognition which were awarded during the SETUP Forum held at the DOST Central Office in Bicutan, Taguig City.

MGN Frozen Foods, a meat processing firm from Sta. Cruz, Ilocos Sur was distinguished as the best among the successful project beneficiaries of the Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program or SETUP, the banner program of DOST aimed at improving productivity and competitiveness of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises.

Adelisa C. Florendo, SETUP Regional Coordinator, said MGN Frozen Foodsthis bested the other MSMEs that competed in the Search for 2015 Best SETUP Adoptor with a 93.8% rate based on the four established criteria for evaluation, namely: Technology, Process and Innovation Assimilation (40%); Product and Process Outcomes (20%); Market and Financial Outcomes (20%) and Entrepreneural Acumen and Management Leadership (20%).

Among the other MSMEs that competed in the Search for 2015 Best SETUP Adoptor were Basilio’s Chicharon in Ilocos Norte, Mike Stainless Steel in La Union, Dalgem’s Welding Shop in Pangasinan I, and Hannah and Chloe Food Enterprises in Pangasinan II.#
