DOST-TAPI conducts inventors contest and exhibits

SAN NICOLAS, Ilocos Norte – Staging the theme, ā€œInventions and innovations for the Peopleā€, the Department of Science and Technology- Technology Application and Promotion Institute (DOST-TAPI), through the DOST Regional Office 1, conducted the 2017 Regional Invention Contest and Exhibit (RICE) on November 14 to 16, 2017 at the Robinsons Place Ilocos here.
To recognize Filipino inventorā€™s creativity, hardworks and efforts in showing their inventive capabilities, a total of 234 entries from the secondary schools, State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) and private individuals and institutions in Region 1 were exhibited and judged during the event. The total entries composed six Utility Models, 13 Creative Research, and Sibol Awards from 201 and 14 entries from secondary schools and SUCs, respectively.
The following awards namely, Tuklas Award, Outstanding Utility Model Award, Outstanding Industrial Design, Likha Award, and Sibol Award were conferred to the winners in the high school and college category.
The entries were judged according to the originality of the technology, creativity/methodology, the market potential and usefulness, and presentation and demonstration of the participants.
Three regional winners were selected per category and and awarded during the closing ceremonies on November 16, 2017.
An inventorsā€™ summit was also conducted to discuss concerns among the inventors as well as the laws governing inventions, and their rights and privileges. (From the report of Florde Liza L. Alida, DOST Project Assistant I)
