VIGAN CITY – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) assures road safety of motorists as the province of Ilocos Sur is observing All Saint’s Day.
Marivic Lorenzana, OIC Motorists Assistance Center of the 1st Engineering District of Ilocos Sur, said this is to ensure public safety of all motorists and passengers traveling just to catch up and visit the tombs of their loved ones in the different public cemeteries in the province’s first district.
She said, the center, located at the national highway (Manila-Northroad) of Zone V, Bantay, Ilocos Sur is ready to assists those who are in need of help especially from far away provinces or those who came from long travels.
She said many of the motorists seeking assistance were asking for directions to Vigan City, other parts of Ilocos Sur and the northern most part of the region.
Lorenzana said as of this time, road travel is at normal condition as there were no major vehicular accidents reported within their area of jurisdiction.
She also assures that they are ready to help those needing medical assistance as they have adequate medicines, first aid kits and trained staff on stand-by.
Lorenzana added that the DPWH has stand-by vehicles to help and transport motorists in instances where their cars encounter mechanical failure.
“The agency’s center started to assists travelers only last Tuesday because we had to defer due to typhoon Rosita,” Lorenzana said.
The agency’s motorists assistance center is located a few meters away from the PNP checkpoint and the municipal building of Bantay, fronting the St Augustine Parish Church, a major tourist destination.
She assures local motorists and others visiting the province of safe travel because of the road-worthiness of the well-maintained Manila-Northroad, a vital link connecting the provinces of Northern Luzon and Metro Manila. (Omar Anthony T. Aquino)
