ILOCOS SUR — In the midst of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ), the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) here conducted a series of Diskwento Caravan to help consumers avail basic and prime necessities especially in this challenging time.

DTI-Ilocos Sur Provincial Office, in partnership with the Provincial Government of Ilocos Sur, local government units (LGUs) and partner suppliers, held the Diskwento Caravan in 12 municipalities, particularly those in the upland areas of the province.

This is in response to the request of various LGUs that have difficulty in accessing basic and prime necessities as sources of which usually come from the urban centers like the cities of Candon and Vigan.

DTI Provincial Director Grace Lapastora dispatched the Negosyo Center Business Counsellors (NCBCs) to coordinate with their respective LGUs and retailers, and consolidate the needed goods requested by the populace.

The NCBCs and some LGUs delivered the goods right at the doorsteps of the retailers.

Condiments, instant noodles, canned goods, hygiene products and disinfectant, cooking oil, flour, coffee, milk and sugar were sold during the caravan.

The most commonly ordered commodities are flour and brown sugar as residents from these upland towns usually prepare their own snacks.

One Town One Product such as longganisa, garlic, ginger and onion were likewise offered to the buying public.

The vehicles provided by the Provincial Government of Ilocos Sur, under the leadership of Governor Ryan Luis Singson, were fully maximized as these were used to haul products such as camote and ginger from local farmers of Salcedo, San Emilio and Gregorio del Pilar bought by the Diskwento Caravan Team to help them market their produce.

DTI said the Diskwento Caravan will continue to serve the consumers throughout the duration of the ECQ to provide easier access to affordable basic and prime commodities, in accordance with the suggested retail prices.
